An outstanding and important gilt embellished uranium glass beaker of trumpet form on a stepped wavy edge facet base, the underside cut in a diamond star pattern. The front features a masterful copper wheel engraving of Bürgstein/Einsiedlerstein, the legendary 40 meter high sandstone cliff in Northern Bohemia - used from the the 13th to the 17th century as a castle defence - and later as a hermitage. The reverse inscription reads 'Hinsicht der Einsiedler Stein Bürgstein gegen aufgang' 'View of Einsiedler Stein Bürgstein from the way up'. Condition: stand wear to the under-base; light surface age and use wear; nothing further found. Circa 1840, Bohemian. Article measured in centimetres and rounded to the nearest quarter inch. Height 12.5cm/5in, width 9.4cm/3.75in.
