A dramatic and very well modelled large spelter (white metal) sculpture of a semi nude male figure straining to pull a huge log with a rope, he stands on grassy clumps, the work is set on a black marble base. The figure and log are cold painted in bronzed green and brown tones. Condition: a few minor losses and marks to the paint; one or two small nicks to the marble edges; light wear; nothing further found. Circa 1930s, unmarked but with certainty a work by Alexandre Ouline - born in Belgium, active mainly in France, fl1918-1940. Article measured in centimetres and rounded to the nearest quarter inch. Height 52.5cm/20.75in, width 65.5cm/26in. depth 15cm/6in, weight 11kg/24.25lb.
