Late C19th hand painted view tile by William (Billy) Yale, signed, framed #3

A hand painted and glazed tile, predominantly in brown and cream tones with additional pale blue, featuring the convergence of rushing streams below tree lined banks. The tile surface is lightly textured giving a canvas like effect. Condition: minor rubbing to the decoration; minor surface wear; nothing further found. Late 19th century, indistinctly signed bottom right 'W.Yale'. About the artist: born in Newport, Shropshire in 1843, William (Billy) Yale worked as a painter for Copeland from circa 1869-83, where he specialised in marine views and winter scenes. On leaving Copeland, he started his own studio as a 'Tile and Slab Decorator' in Stoke-on-Trent, buying in blanks from local potteries and firing them in his own kiln.
