A fine and very tall urn shaped and footed vase in Vaseline uranium with a very pale creamy-green tinge. Showing Japanese influences, the vase is masterfully hand enamelled in polychrome with goldfinches and a blue tit perched on or flying amongst dog roses, leaves, twigs and a branch, there are also flying bees. The neck and base are embellished with raised pale blue enamel patterns, as well as gilt-work. Condition: some light rubbing to the enamel and gilding; light surface wear; nothing further found, reacts strongly to UV/Blacklight. Circa 1880, unmarked but very likely to be by Josephinenhütte and painted by Arthur Gerlach. The foot image and uranium image shown are from one vase, but are similar for all three. Dimensions based on centimetres and rounded to nearest quarter inch. Height 37.5cm/15in, circa width 17cm/6.75in, rim diameter 11.5cm/4.5in. Second identical vase available to make a pair, third vase with different neck available to make a trio, see last two images.
