A splendid gourd shape French vase, the rim mounted with beaten and stud effect plated mounts. The grey-black patina ground vase is deep acid etched with bats on the wing in a moonlit forest setting. Circa 1930s, etched "VAL" mark for Val E & Cie, "Ancienne Maison Effler" 218 rue du Faubourg, Paris, same mark stamped on the metal rim mount. Glass almost certainly produced by Paul Daum and probably designed by Pierre d'Avesn. Article measured in centimetres and rounded to the nearest quarter inch. Height 14cm/5.75in, width 14cm/5.75in.
