An exciting and scarce tapered ovoid form French vase, the rim and base mounted with beaten effect plated mounts. The grey patina ground vase is deep acid etched with stylised floral and leaf motifs, as well as bead drops. Condition: light surface age and use wear; some light rubbing to the plate; nothing further found. Circa 1930s, etched "VAL" mark for Val E & Cie, "Ancienne Maison Effler" 218 rue du Faubourg, Paris, same mark stamped on the metal rim mount. Glass almost certainly produced by Paul Daum and probably designed by Pierre d'Avesn. Article measured in centimetres and rounded to the nearest quarter inch. Height 17cm/6.75in.
