A very fine small cobalt glass scent bottle, with an embossed silver gilt hinged top, embossed collar, chain with suspensory ring, and glass stopper. The body is cut into different panels, each masterfully hand decorated in gilt with leaf sprays, flower head patterns, trellis and dot designs, and oval motifs. Condition: rubbing to the gilt where the high points have surface contact; one or two very tiny nicks to high point edges; light surface wear; nothing further found; hinge play but good firm closure. Circa 1860-70, French, the silver gilt hallmarked in two places with a boar's head, plus a maker's mark. Height 5.2cm/2in, width 2cm/0.75in, depth 1cm/0.25in.
