An excellent Hyalith scent bottle, with an embossed silver gilt hinged top, embossed collar, and glass stopper. The body is scoop cut into different panels, each masterfully hand decorated in gilt with floral and leaf sprays, scrollwork patterns, trellis designs, and scale motifs. Condition: light rubbing to the gilt in the top front and back panels where the bottle has been held; one or two very tiny nicks to high point edges; light surface wear; stopper possibly a replacement; nothing further found; hinge firm, good closure. Circa 1860-70, French, the silver gilt hallmarked in two places with a boar's head, plus a maker's mark. Height 8.5cm/3.25in, width 3cm/1.25in, depth 1.5cm/0.5in.
