An elegant amethyst overlay crystal smelling salts bottle of waisted form, the body cut to clear with diamonds and lenses. The bottle is mounted with a spring catch silver or plated hinged top. Condition: one or two tiny nicks to high points; light surface wear to the top; very minor interior bloom; nothing further found; good snap closure. Circa 1870, the top not hallmarked, silver gilt finish to the inside, not readable maker's name and the word "London" stamped on the internal disk. Article measured in centimetres and rounded to the nearest quarter inch. Height 8cm/3in, width 3cm/1.25in.
