A handsome cut glass scent bottle, with a silver embossed hinged top, silver collar, and glass stopper. The wavy outline bottle is hand decorated in translucent red enamel with birds, floral elements, and scrollwork. Condition: minor rubbing to the decoration; one or two tiny nicks to high points; light surface age and use wear; minor interior bloom; nothing further found; hinge firm, good closure. Circa 1860-70, hallmarked with a Dutch sword mark and maker's or town mark "V", the latter with additional symbols. Article measured in centimetres and rounded to the nearest quarter inch. Height 10cm/4in, width 3.5cm/4in.
