A handsome opaline milk glass scent bottle with an eight sided leaf, flower and stripe engraved silver gilt hinged top, conforming collar, and glass stopper. The body is cut with chevrons, rectangles and grooves. Condition: one or two tiny nicks to high points and edges; minor dimpling to the top; nothing further found, hinge firm, good closure. Circa 1880, probably French, apparently not hallmarked, top has been tested for purity. Article measured in centimetres and rounded to the nearest quarter inch. Height 8.2cm/3.25in, width 3.6cm/1.5in.
