A rare relief pressed tile with three dimensional effect, featuring a dark blue green circular scene of five animated figures discussing and watching two cocks fighting in a pit. The scene is framed by a brown wickerwork border. Condition: one or two microscopic edge nibbles, light surface wear; minor glaze losses to the circle outline; nothing further found. Circa 1880, fully marked to the reverse for Minton Hollins, Patent Tile Works, Stoke-on-Trent (back shown representative for all tiles in this series). Article measured in centimetres and rounded to the nearest quarter inch. 15cm/6in square.
