A rare transfer printed tile in mid-blue on white, featuring a peaceful recumbent cow in a pastoral setting, with birds on the wing, and a fence and barn behind. Condition: removal of the frame back reveals the tile appears to have been restored, if so, it has been masterfully done, as this dealer can find no evidence on the front, either with a magnifying glass or UV/blacklight; minor surface wear; fine glaze crazing; nothing further found. Almost certainly a butcher's shop display tile, back signed "Mintons", date code "8" for 1908, designer's or potter's mark "IS", plus the number "3" and a small pennant. Framed ready for hanging correctly in diamond form. Article measured in centimetres and rounded to the nearest quarter inch. 34cm/13.5in square including frame.
